Originally purchased by Charles and Sarah Rexroth in 1945 (when Ken was 2 years old), the "Home Farm" where Ken still resides has seen 3 generations of Rexroths involved in agriculture. Ken's childhood years were spent raising dogs, rabbits and swine. With Charles and Sarah having lived through the "Great Depression", they made sure to impress the lessons they learned onto their children. Being 1 of 12 siblings, Ken learned early on how to make the most of limited resources.
When Ken's father passed away suddenly in 1963, Ken purchased the homestead from his mother and later started his own family on the farm where he grew up. Growing bulk vegetable crops (potatoes and tomatoes), delivering them to market and feeding beef cattle seemed to be a formula for success in the 60's in York County for someone willing to burn the candle at both ends. As an attractive alternative to trucking the vegetable crops, the dairy facility was built in 1973 to diversify the farm and slowly phase out of the growing and hauling the potaoes and tomatoes.
In 1992 Ken's son Jim graduated from Virginia Tech with a BS degree in dairy science and a minor in Ag Economics. In 1993 Ken and Jim formed a business partnership and the joint venture became Rexroth Farms. Tempering Jim's enthusiasm and love of learning with Ken's experience and determination was mutually beneficial and the operation flourished.
Gradually farming more acreage every year and expanding the trucking capacity to match the growth, having a grain handling facility seemed like a logical next move. The grain facility was constructed in 2006 just in time to take advantage of a few rewarding years to be involved in that enterprise.
Today, the farming operation consists of naturally fed beef cattle and no till grain cropping acreage in various areas of York County.
